Rotary and Polio in India 2015

This and the next few blog entries, record our participation as Rotarians in the National Immunisation Day (NID) in India in February 2015. They are written with fellow Rotarians in mind, particularly those who might be thinking about taking part in a NID sometime in the future (if there are any more).

There is also a link to the blogs we wrote in 2013 when we went to Baduan in Uttar Pradesh and that which we wrote in 2014 when we went to Delhi to take part in the February NIDs there.

For those unused to  blogs, look to the right of this page in the February 2015 section and you will find a number of entries – if they are not showing individually, then click on the word February and they should then show at the bottom of that months’ list of blog entries. Alternatively, you can get to the other entries by clicking on the appropriate “here” in the list below.

As a postscript to these entries, on the day we left for India, I was told that I had been awarded a "Regional Service Award for a Polio-Free World for 2014-2015 in recognition of his non-financial contribution to polio eradication throughout the region”. The Region is the World Health Organisation’s European Region (there are six WHO regions in the world) and I was one of 6 in the European region to receive the award.

Pat and Paul Polio Award

It was a pity that the award citation does not allow for recognition of Pat because she has been to the same NIDs as me and is just as enthusiastic a vaccinator. She was there however when it was presented in May 2015 at the District 1240 Assembly by District Governor Stan Keller.

Thank-you Rotary.
