A few tourist sites in and around Lisbon - Jerónimos Monastery

One of the most popular tourist sites (judging from the number of large

coaches and people) is the World Heritage Site -  the Jerónimos Monastery in Belem. The South Portal is particularly famous because of its

ornate carving and the inside of the Church (which houses the tomb of Vasco da Gama) has some amazing carved

octagonal pillars supporting the roof, some lovely stained glass

and a cloister

with yet more ornate carving

Nearby is one of Lisbon’s most famous sites, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos – a statue which commemorates numerous Portuguese

explorers led by Henry the Navigator.

And if course, just down the street is the famous Pasteis de Belem shop.

All-in-all, Lisbon is well worth a visit and we had a great time.
